Estate Planning. Mike's practice focuses on helping families and individuals create a lasting legacy by caring for themselves while they are alive and able, and helping ensure that their estate distribution carries on their legacy after death.   Trusts, Wills, Financial Powers of Attorney, and Healthcare Powers of Attorney are the cornerstones of most plans – all designed around each family's personal story and legacy.  And for parents of minor children, Mike brings a special approach to helping parents ensure their minor children are cared for by who they want and in the way they want.  Mike also helps with unique family and property issues, such as multi-generational small business transfer planning, planning for a family member with special needs, planning for a cherished family pet, and planning for firearms collections and firearms regulated under Title II of the National Firearms Act (NFA).

Medicaid.  More and more couples and families are seeking legal advice about how to preserve their family’s assets when one of them needs to enter long-term care. Mike helps families navigate the complex and ever-changing Medicaid rules in order to qualify the long-term care patient for Medicaid and preserve the assets for the spouse who remains at home. Simply because one spouse needs long-term care does not mean that the other spouse needs to become destitute.  Mike helps guide families through proper planning that helps the spouse maintain his or her quality of life.

Business Formation and Counsel. Mike has helped many entrepreneurs get their business started with a solid legal foundation, whether a Corporation or LLC.  From the small, closely held family business to the multi-level corporation, Mike counsels his business clients on changes in the law and advises them on their ongoing operations.  He brings a unique aspect to the table – a business educational background and practical knowledge gained from his experience as a high-level executive at a local small business.  Mike also works with clients in the tool and die industry, putting his knowledge of Michigan's Special Tools Lien Act to work in the area of collections.

Estate Administration/Trust Administration.  "Where the rubber meets the road" in the world of estate planning.  Estate and trust administration are the process of carrying out your estate plan.  Mike walks alongside families to help them navigate the administration process, whether it be through the probate court process (in the case of estate administration) or through administering their living trust.  With many steps and timelines involved, Mike enjoys helping take some of the burden off those responsible for administering the estate or trust.
