Jamie assists organizations in strategic planning and formation, including obtaining 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status with the IRS, when appropriate. She also serves as legal counsel to the Board of Directors of several non-profit organizations and family foundations, and conducts board development sessions. Jamie is certified in Nonprofit Board Leadership from the Johnson Center for Philanthropy at Grand Valley State University and the Dow Foundation.
Jamie assists clients in both the for profit and non-profit sectors, creating and implementing employee handbooks and policies. She assists employers navigating the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), and provides counsel for employers in the areas of hiring, terminations, layoffs and recalls.
Jamie is a frequently-requested speaker on various topics, including both legal and non-legal issues. Previous speaking appearances include Resurrection Life Church, as a workshop speaker for both the Leadership Conference and the Women’s Conference as well as the Business Persons’ Luncheon, area chambers of commerce, Love, INC., the Cassopolis school system, Upwards Basketball at Kentwood Community Church, area accounting firms and financial advisor groups as well as the Parkinson’s Association of West Michigan. She currently serves on the Exploratory Committee of the Grandville/Walker Community Foundation. She has appeared on WZZM Channel 13’s Take Five show as a special guest. She is a past board member and officer of the National Parkinson Foundation of West Michigan and a past board member and speaker for the Michigan Eating Disorders Alliance (MiEDA). Previously, Jamie served as Public Administrator for Kent County. When she is not working, Jamie is involved in several volunteer positions in the community as well as the various activities of her two children.
