LEGAL ASSISTANT

PRACTICE DESCRIPTION AND EXPERIENCE

Jamie assists organizations in strategic planning and formation, including obtaining 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status with the IRS, when appropriate. She also serves as legal counsel to the Board of Directors of several non-profit organizations and family foundations, and conducts board development sessions. Jamie is certified in Nonprofit Board Leadership from the Johnson Center for Philanthropy at Grand Valley State University and the Dow Foundation.

In addition, Jamie has been working in the area of Estate Planning for over 20 years helping families and individuals create Trusts, establish Guardianships and Custodianships, and administering decedents' estates.

COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES

Jamie is a frequently-requested speaker on various topics, including both legal and non-legal issues. Previous speaking appearances include Resurrection Life Church, as a workshop speaker for both the Leadership Conference and the Women's Conference as well as the Business Persons' Luncheon; area chambers of commerce; Love, INC.; the Cassopolis school system; Upwards Basketball at Kentwood Community Church; area accounting firms and financial advisor groups as well as the Parkinson's Association of West Michigan. She was a founding member of the Grandville Walker Foundation serving on both the exploratory committee and the first board of directors where she held the office of secretary. She has appeared on WZZM Channel 13's Take Five show as a special guest. She is a past board member and officer of the National Parkinson Foundation of West Michigan and a past board member and speaker for the Michigan Eating Disorders Alliance (MiEDA). Previously, Jamie served as Public Administrator for Kent County. When she is not working, Jamie is involved in several volunteer positions in the community as well as the various activities of her two children.
